FEATURING

KIM LUBEL

Members, join us for our Transformational Leadership Spotlight, featuring Kim Lubel, Corner Stores Brands, Inc. (CST) Chief Executive Officer, at the Old San Francisco Steakhouse.

Ms. Lubel has served as CST's Chief Executive Officer and President since January 2013, served as a member of the CST Board since November 2012 and as Chairman of CST Board since April 2013.

Ms. Lubel is one of a small group of women who heads up a Fortune 500 company. There are only 21 female CEOs on the elite Fortune 500 list, and CST, the convenience-store chain, is ranked in the top 300 on that list with $10 billion in revenue.

Creating a retail culture across the entire organization is a priority for Lubel. In 2015, she instilled four new core values at CST: innovation, strategic thinking, entrepreneurial spirit and servant leadership. At CST, all executives and office employees are required to work in the stores for at least two days a year through a program Lubel calls “Corner Store Time.” On her Corner Store Time days, Lubel can be found helping to bake whoopie pies, taking out the trash or refilling the coffee urns in an effort to better understand the day-to-day tasks of store employees.

“A servant leader serves first and then leads,” Lubel said. “It’s not just about being ‘nice’ but about motivating and inspiring employees to reach further than they thought possible."

In her previous roles at CST, Ms. Lubel served in various executive management roles at Valero Energy Corporation (NYSE: VLO), including as Executive Vice President and General Counsel and Vice President of Legal Services. During her tenure at Valero Energy Corporation, Ms. Lubel was the lead lawyer on over $18 billion of acquisitions, helping grow the company from a small regional refiner to one of international scope.

Prior to joining Valero Energy Corporation in 1997, Ms. Lubel specialized in mergers and acquisitions with the law firm of Kelly, Hart & Hallman from 1991 to 1997.

Since 2011, she has served as a director of the board of WPX Energy, Inc. (NYSE:WPX), a publicly traded company focus- ing on extraction of oil and natural gas.

Ms. Lubel was named to Fortune’s 50 Most Powerful Women in 2013 and again in 2015, and was named Retail Leader of the Year by Convenience Store News in 2014.

Ms. Lubel holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and International Studies from Miami University (Ohio), Master of Arts degree in International Relations from Baylor University, and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas School of Law. She is also a 2009 graduate of the Stanford Executive Program.
