POWERhour! 

Featuring

Renee Watson

 

As we embark on our eighth year of POWERhour! Luncheons, we welcome Renee Watson  as our February POWER Speaker! 

Renee is the Director of the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Department for Bexar County and is a member of the County Manager's Executive Leadership Team.  She has the large responsibility of coordinating, facilitating, implementing, and monitoring the County's Small Minority & Women Owned Business Enterprise (SMWBE) Program.  She acts as a liaison with offices and departments within the County to ensure that the SMWBEs have access to County procurement, contracting and professional service opportunities. 

Part of Renee's role is to assess and recommend improvements to increase participation; in addition, she works with the Purchasing Agent offices and departments to explore these concepts and analyze the advantages and disadvantages to modifying current practices.   Renee also works directly with community organizations, other public entities and vendors to promote participation and access in local, state and federal and private sector procurement opportunities. 

Prior to working for Bexar County, Renee worked as the Chief of Staff for State Senator Rodney Ellis in Houston, and Councilman George Stevens in San Diego.

Renee's credentials include a Master Contract Compliance Administrator Certification from Morgan State University; a BBA - Management/Marketing from the University of Texas - SA; and, she is a graduate of Sam Houston High School.  Furthermore, she was selected as a National Urban/Rural Fellow and awarded her MPA - Urban Planning and Rural Economic Development from Baruch College in New York.

A few of her most recent accolades include: Athena Leadership Award, North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce; Citizen's Academy, FBI - San Antonio District; Freedom Award, Ford tribute to Women   Business Leaders, San Antonio Chamber of Commerce; and, Women Business Champion of the Year Award, SBA.  Renee is also serving as the Diversity Committee Chair for the Institute of Supply Management (ISM) - San Antonio Chapter and is a member of the ISM National Learning Solutions Advisory Committee.
