October POWERhour!

Featuring

Lila Cockrell

Lila Cockrell

The SAWCC is excited to announce Lila Cockrell as our next POWERhour! Luncheon speaker. If you haven't had an opportunity to hear stories about a true trailblazer, you won't want to miss hearing Lila tell you herself about her life's journeys!

Just a few details about Lila - Lila served as San Antonio's first woman Mayor form 1975 to 1981 and again from 1989 to 1991.  With her election as Mayor, she became the first female Mayor of a major metropolitan area in the United States.  Lila also served nine years as City Councilwoman.

Lila was the first woman to serve in a variety of capacities including President of the Alamo Area Council of Governments and the Texas Municipal League.  She was also the first woman to serve on the boards of the National League of Cities, National Association of Regional Councils, and the U.S. Conference of Mayors.  In recognition of her abundant political and community service and accomplishments, Lila has been inducted into the Texas Women's Hall of Fame and the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame.

Lila currently serves as a Co-Chairman of the San Antonio River Oversight Committee, National Trustee of the San Antonio Museum of Art, a Trustee of Southwest Research Institute, and Honorary Life member of the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation and a member of the Texas Forum of the International Women's Forum.

NOTE: Registrants who choose to pay at the door and then do not attend the event will be billed for the cost of the luncheon.
