What to Expect
The Transformational Leadership Development (TLD) Series will consist of six morning sessions held once a month from 8AM – 12:00PM, focusing on specific skills and knowledge exemplified by leaders in highly successful companies.
The upcoming agenda will continue to have educational training while using resources from the book created by Tom Rath, Strengthfinder while incorporating in our latest read, Dare to Lead™. This book is based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown will be incorporated into the participant studies.
Dare to Lead™ is an empirically based courage-builiding program designed to be facilitated by organizational development professionals. Brené is a research professor at the University of Houston where she holds the Huffington Foundation – Brené Brown Endowed Chair at the Graduate College of Social Work. She has spent the past two decades studying courage, vulnerability, shame, and empathy, and most recently completed a seven-year study on courageous leadership.
Dare to Lead™
This year’s expert speaker, Dr. Lizzy Pérez, a certified Dare to Lead™ Facilitator, is honored to have been trained by Brené Brown directly, and is thrilled to have the opportunity to share her incredible work with our Transformational Leadership Development Series.
The participants will also be introduced to San Antonio leaders who have excelled in moving their companies forward and who are held in high regard by the San Antonio community for their leadership contributions in and outside the business world.

This training session is designed to leverage Gallup’s CliftonStrengths (formerly known as StrengthsFinder) assessment to help participants identify, understand, and apply their unique strengths and talents. The core goals of the sessions are to empower individuals to significantly maximize their productivity and increase overall efficiency by working within their natural areas of strength.
Each cohort member will complete the official, internationally recognized Gallup assessment prior to the initial phase of the training. Training will be provided by a Certified Strengths Coach. The coach will lead the cohort through structured sessions focused on understanding the meaning and application of their individual and collective strengths.

Dr. Lizzy Pérez
Dr. Lizzy Pérez is part academic powerhouse, part poetic soul, and part Latina firecracker with a résumé that could deadlift a school district. A former teacher, varsity coach, assistant principal, and high school principal, Lizzy brings over 30 years of lived leadership experience to every stage she steps on, making her one of the most compelling voices not just in education but in organizational change today.
Dr. Pérez is the kind of leader who sees perfectionism in leadership especially not as a badge of honor but as a saboteur to courage and she’s made it her mission to unmask it across boardrooms, classrooms, and communities alike. As a Certified Dare to Lead™ Facilitator trained by Dr. Brené Brown, and a Trauma-Informed Care Practitioner and ACE Interface Master Trainer, with a PhD in Leadership Studies, Lizzy delivers keynotes that rumble, restore, and reignite purpose.
She’s equal parts thought leader, systems shaker, and emotional alchemist — the kind of presence that shifts the energy the moment she walks in.
From rural South Texas roots to national conference stages, she fuses emotional intelligence, storytelling, psychological safety, and soul-deep wisdom into powerful, introspective learning experiences. Yvette D. Gomez
Yvette D. Gomez has worked at the Education Service Center, Region 20 for 21 years. She has served as a Component Director for 17 of those years and currently supports a variety of work groups to include regional and statewide programs. She is an ESC-20 Leadership Development Academy trainer who embraces and trains on aspects of Covey’s Principles and the 4 Disciplines of Execution. She is a Certified Life Coach and a Certified Gallup® Strengths Coach who is extremely passionate about coaching others to assist them in seeing their potential and realizing excellence. Yvette loves working with teams to stretch their thinking while focusing on their strengths, ultimately allowing teams to achieve their maximum potential.

Welcome to Dare to Lead™
To cultivate a strong foundation of psychological safety, participants will learn the difference between “Armored vs. Daring Leadership” and explore essential Dare to Lead concepts: leader, vulnerability, rumble, circle back, and wholeheartedness.
This shared language and understanding will anchor our journey and deepen connection throughout the program.

DAY 2 – FEB 26, 2026
The Heart of Daring Leadership
Define what a daring leader is and learn the four teachable, observable, and measurable skill sets:
- Rumbling with Vulnerability

- Braving Trust
- Learning to Rise.
Learn how to ask for what you need, set healthy boundaries, and reach out for support with courage and clarity.

DAY 3 – MAR 26, 2026
Myths of Vulnerability
Explore the Six Myths of Vulnerability to deepen your understanding of courageous leadership. We’ll challenge outdated beliefs and begin integrating new language around vulnerability and rumbling – key components of daring leadership.
Together, we’ll define vulnerability and recognize its essential role alongside courage. This work lays the foundation for more authentic, connected, and resilient leadership.

DAY 4 – APR 23, 2026
Empathy and Self-Compassion
Learn about the core components of empathy — what it is, how it shows up in real conversations, and where we often miss the mark.
We’ll also begin to unpack the practice of self-compassion, learning what it means to speak to ourselves with the same kindness and understanding we offer to others. Examine the key attributes of empathy, identify common empathic misses that hinder connection, and clarify what self-compassion is — and what it is not.

DAY 5 – MAY 21, 2026
Grounded Confidence and Rumbling Skills
In this session, participants will examine the concept Grounded Confidence by practicing rumble skills and using Rumble Starters to navigate feedback conversations. We’ll also introduce the SFD (Scrappy First Draft).
Together, we’ll explore how curiosity and inquiry strengthen confidence, apply daring leadership strategies for giving and receiving feedback.

DAY 6 – JUN 18, 2026
Learning to Rise
In our final session, participants will engage with the Rising Strong process, learning what it means to “get hooked,” and how to re-enter with courage after a challenge or conflict; strengthening our emotional literacy and building resilience in leadership.
We’ll examine how curiosity and emotional awareness support recovery after setbacks, how our brains are wired for story, and how unexamined narratives shape behavior.
