Smart Women Series

The SMART WOMEN Series was created by Dr. Yvonne Katz in 2007, mirrored after the famous book by author David Bach, titled “Smart Women Finish Rich: 9 Steps to Achieving Financial Security and Funding Your Dreams.”

Dr. Katz created this educational series to “empower” women by giving them the opportunity to have discussions with provocateurs that are experts on real life and real business topics that affect women’s lives.


This is a five-part series that runs parallel to the school year, running September through May of the following year. Sessions take place over the lunch hour (typically 11:30-1 pm).

This educational series is specially designed to both inform and empower women by affording them the opportunity to spark spirited discussions with provocateurs who are experts on real-life and real business topics that affect women’s lives will be spotlighting.

Wednesday, May 11 from 11:30-1 pm: on Mental Health Awareness month, Jelynne LeBlanc Jamison presents ” End the Stigma & Bring Awareness”

Wednesday, September 28 from 11:30-1pm: “SmartWomen Know How to Negotiate”, presented by Dr.Amy C. Lewis Associate Dean of Business and Professor of Management, College of Business, Texas A&M University, San Antonio. 

Wednesday, October 19 from 11:30-1 pm: “SMARTWomen Know How to Drive Their Careers”, presented by Cora Lonning, Leadership Coach & Capacity Builder.


“SMARTWomen Know How to Negotiate” presented by Dr. Amy Lewis

SEPTEMBER 28, 2022 | 11:30 – 1:00PM at La Quinta Hotel



This will be an experiential negotiation session where participants will negotiate in pairs. Following the activity, the session will focus on improving negotiation outcomes by identifying types of interests, strategies for increasing indivudual and joint outcomes, and tips for maximizing outcomes in future negotiations.

After attending this program, attendees will be able to:

  1. Identify interests and make smart tradeoffs

  2. Move from a win/lose to a Win/win mindset

  3. Know the must-haves for every NEGOTIATION

Dr. Amy C. Lewis, Associate Dean of Business and Professor of Management, College of Business, Texas A&M University, San Antonio, earned her Ph.D. in social psychology from Indiana University and trained in organizational behavior as a postdoctoral research associate at the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah. Amy’s research focuses on social identity, teams, and managerial cognition. Her work has been published in top journals, and she currently serves on the board of directors for Goodwill Industries of San Antonio. She has led executive and professional trainings related to communication, team-work, change management, decision-making, negotiations, and strategic planning. She and her colleagues have a  forthcoming book titled Entrepreneurial Cosplay: Building Identity, Brand and Business Acumen to be published by Routledge.
